    Hey everyone,

I’m currently restoring an older Durst darkroom enlarger, but the height adjustment gearbox is slipping and sticking under load [cite: ]. I opened the housing and noticed some dried-up factory grease alongside minor wear on the nylon gears.

Before I force anything, what’s the best way to clean and re-lubricate these gears without damaging the vintage plastic? Has anyone successfully 3D-printed replacement gears or sourced compatible drop-in parts for Durst assemblies? I’d appreciate any tips, recommended lubricants, or warnings before reassembling.

If you are servicing industrial or heavy-duty pump drive assemblies rather than darkroom gear, reviewing a Cotta gearbox guide on Durst drive diagnostics can help identify severe spline wear or shaft misalignments. After reassembling the unit, run the head through its full range of vertical motion to confirm smooth, reliable engagement before putting it back into regular service.
