I’ve got a 2014 528i with the N20 engine and I’ve been reading horror stories about timing chain guides failing. Lately I’ve noticed a slight whirring noise from the front of the engine, especially when cold. My regular mechanic says it’s just the accessory belt but I’m not convinced. I know these engines have a known issue and I’d rather address it early than wait for catastrophic failure. A friend who had his chain replaced on his X3 recommended finding a shop that does Advanced Engine Repair Abu Dhabi and has experience with the N20 timing chain service. Has anyone here actually had the chain and guides replaced preventively? I’m wondering what the cost looks like and if it’s worth doing before any codes appear. Also curious if they can inspect through the oil fill cap to check for guide wear before opening everything up. Just trying to avoid a 20k engine replacement because I ignored the early signs. Any specialist recommendations in Mussafah would be hugely appreciated.

I’ve been keeping an eye on my 2014 528i’s N20 engine, especially after hearing about timing chain issues. Recently, I’ve noticed a slight whirring noise w33 gaming, which my mechanic attributed to the accessory belt. However, I’m not fully convinced and want to explore all possibilities. I’ve been looking into preventive maintenance.
