I’ve been looking at a few imports and keep coming back to the Japanese vehicle auction sheet and honestly I’m not sure how much I should trust it when buying directly from Japan. Some listings make it look like a great deal, but I’ve never bought anything straight from auction before.
I’m in the UK (Manchester) and I’ve been browsing options like Toyota Aqua, Honda Fit hybrids, and even a few Suzuki Swift Sport imports around the £5k–£8k range. The thing that worries me is how much I can really rely on the Japanese vehicle auction sheet when I can’t physically inspect the car myself. Grades like 4 or 4.5 look good on paper, but I keep reading mixed opinions about hidden rust, underbody corrosion, or minor accident repairs not being fully obvious.
I also wonder how this all translates once the car lands here with DVLA registration, MOT checks, and insurance valuation. Some sellers say the auction sheet tells you everything, but I’m not convinced it’s the full picture.
Has anyone here actually bought straight from auction without using a UK dealer? How risky was it in reality, and what would you check first if you had to do it again?
