What’s a timeline from ‘we need a developer’ to ‘developer is actually working’?

Trying to plan around this and I genuinely have no idea what’s realistic anymore.

We realized about three weeks ago that we needed extra hands on the backend, nothing complicated really, just more than one person can handle alone at this point. Posted on a couple of job boards, got maybe fifteen applications, and half of them weren’t even close to what we needed. Interviews ate up another week and a half on top of that.

Someone mentioned that going with dedicated developers for hire through an agency usually moves faster since they’ve already got vetted people sitting there ready to go, instead of you starting the search from zero every time. Haven’t tried it myself yet, so no idea if that holds up in practice or if it’s just what everyone says before you actually do it.

Right now we’re sitting at almost a month with nobody writing a single line of code, which feels way too long for how small this project actually is.

Curious what everyone else’s timeline looked like. Days? Weeks? Did it drag on longer than you expected too, or was I just doing something wrong from the start?
