Lifter tick on my Hemi after oil changes, is this normal?
I’ve got a 2015 Ram 1500 with the 5.7 Hemi and I’ve noticed that for the first few minutes after a cold start, there’s this ticking noise that sounds like it’s coming from the top end. Once the engine warms up it mostly goes away, but it’s gotten a bit louder over the past year. I’ve read about the Hemi lifter failure issues and honestly it’s keeping me up at night. I always use synthetic oil and change it every 8k km but I’m wondering if I should switch to a thicker oil or maybe an additive. I really need to find a shop that can tell me if this is just normal valvetrain noise or the beginning of something serious like a camshaft lobe going flat. I’ve been searching for Advanced Engine Repair Mussafah that actually has experience with the Hemi tick and can do things like a bore scope inspection or oil pressure test before recommending a rebuild. Has anyone here had the tick and caught it early enough to avoid a full cam replacement? Also wondering if using a high quality oil filter makes any difference with this engine.
