Mini Cooper gearbox jerking like crazy in Sharjah traffic, anyone know a place that actually fixes these properly?
I’ve got a 2014 Mini Cooper S that I’ve been nursing along for about a year now and honestly the gearbox has been doing this weird thing lately where it feels like it’s second guessing itself when I’m creeping along in the evening traffic on Al Wahda Street, like it’ll hesitate for a second and then lurch forward and then immediately feel like it wants to upshift again even though I’m barely doing 30 kph and it’s driving me absolutely mental. I took it to a general garage in Industrial Area 6 because the guy there does my oil changes and he said it’s probably just the transmission fluid needing a flush but then he told me he doesn’t have the right diagnostic kit for these Aisin units and that I should really find someone who knows these Mini gearboxes inside out because apparently the valve bodies on these things are a bit finicky and if you don’t use the exact right fluid and reset the adaptations properly it can make things worse. So I’ve been doing that thing where you go down an internet rabbit hole at 2am reading forum posts about mechatronic sleeves and torque converter lockup clutches and I stumbled across https://gearboxrepairsharjah.ae/brands/mini-cooper/ which seemed to have some info but I’ve never used a shop that I just found online before so I’m a bit hesitant to just roll up there without knowing if anyone else has had a good experience with them or with any other Mini transmission specialist on this side of Dubai. Just trying to avoid a situation where I drop the car off and then get a call saying I need a full rebuild when it might just be a software update or a simple solenoid swap, anyone here dealt with this particular gearbox gremlin on their Cooper and actually found a place that didn’t try to sell them a whole new transmission.
